The Great Glen Way is a walk of 73 miles or 117km long and was officially opened in April 2002. It starts at the end of the West Highland Way, at Fort William and travels through a variety of differing landscapes through to its end point which is in the capital city of the highlands, Inverness.
Passing by the highest mountain on the British Isles, Ben Nevis, the walk takes you via a scenic forest trail to the Caledonian Canal which ends at Fort Augustus. Here is the start of the world famous Loch Ness which you follow through Invermorrison and Drumnadrochit ending at Dochgarroch 5 miles from Inverness. You pass by another couple of lochs on the way, which are Loch Lochy and Loch Oich. You will travel through various woodland areas before arriving at your finishing point of Inverness Castle.
The scenery along the Great Glen Way is magnificent and there is a multitude of accommodation available from the most basic in a camp site to the more upper class hotels depending on your preference.
