| The West Highland Way is a walk of some 95 miles or 152 km in length and it was opened in 1980. It became the first officially designated long distance route in Scotland, linking Milngavie to Fort William going from the Highlands down to the central belt of Scotland along the west coast.
It is a thoroughly enjoyable walk heading down Scotland's west coast and allowing you to enjoy some breathtaking scenery. Starting at Fort William and ending up in Scotland's largest city Glasgow, along the way you will pass by many well known sites. These include Loch Lomand and also Glencoe which was the site of one of Scotland's most bloody battles.
If you get a chance you may want to stop and take in a Shinty game in the highlands, a Scottish variation of hockey. Also there is native wildlife consisting of Deer, Highland cows and a variety of birds. If you travel in the summer months then there are many local highland games which would be probably worth checking out. |
