Arbroath Abbey

Dating from 1178 and created for the monks of the Tironensian , Arbroath Abbey has a place in Scottish history with the Declaration of Arbroath, in which Scotland's nobles swore their independence from England.

If you visit during the summer season you can enjoy a guided tour of the Abbey by a 17th Century Monk who shares with you a wealth of information on the history of the building and area. These tours run from April to September and you should contact the abbey directly for full details.
