John Knox House is hidden on the Royal Mile, opposite the Museum of Childhood. The house is one of the oldest houses in the city dating back to 1490. It is associated with the famous religious reformer John Knox who only stayed (for a few months) and then died at the house during the siege of Edinburgh Castle in 1572. The house has several floors and maintains many original features, the highlight of the house is the top level which features a hand painted ceiling and beautiful oil painting.
