The Hogmanay celebrations take place over a few days in the city centre of Edinburgh and the party on New Years Eve is one of the most popular celebrations in Europe. The celebrations begin with a torchlight procession which leaves parliament square and end up at Calton Hill on the 30th of December.
The next day the street party takes place in 2 main locations within Edinburgh, there is a street party along Princes Street which usually attracts close to 80,000 people and it features a number of D.Js and live music. There is also a concert in the gardens which takes place in Princes Street Gardens and features live music from a well-known artist (2011 performance was by Primal Scream).
At the end of the night there is an impressive fireworks display to the backdrop of Edinburgh Castle and a communal signing of Auld Lang Syne.
