Largs Viking Festival
Largs Viking Festival commemorates the Battle of Largs in 1263 which was the last conflict between the Norse and Scots. A Viking Village giving a living history of how the Vikings lived in the late 13th Century, will be open every day from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., manned by the Swords of Dalriada.
The Festival site is on the Promenade at Largs and commences on 1st September with an Opening Parade at 2 p.m. which is followed by various events including Clann an Drumma, a Viking skirmish, an aerobatic display by a Starduster Too and performances by Reely Jiggered and the Irvine and Dreghorn Brass Band. There will be Continental/Italian markets and a Farmers' Market with Craft Fayre along with Owl Magic and Kirsty's Critters.
On Friday 7th September there will be a torch lit procession to Aubrey to light the beacon to warn of the Vikings' imminent arrival with a fire show to be followed on Saturday by a RAF Typhoon display and at 7.30 p.m. with the Party at the Pencil; a re-enactment of the Battle of Largs of 1263, burning of a Longship and a fireworks display organised by North Ayrshire Council.
