Military TattooEdinburgh Castle EH1 2NG
The Edinburgh Military Tattoo is one of the most popular annual events to take place in Edinburgh, usually attracting sell out crowds for the majority of its run. The event is held at the promenade outside Edinburgh Castle where temporary stands are constructed to house the many spectators.
The show lasts from around 90 minutes and it involves around 1,000 performers from all around the world. These performers usually heavily consist of pipers and dancers from the military and each year the theme of the show changes.
The musical themes usually vary between traditional Celtic tunes and more modern ones, for example at the 2012 event theme tunes to popular superheroes were played on the drums and bag pipes along with a light display on the castle.
At the end of the performance there is a big fireworks display above the castle giving a fitting end to a usually lively show.
It is advisable to book tickets well in advance as demand tends to be quite high, if you are looking for a bargain there are always half price tickets available for the preview show. This show is the same as the main show but has media in attendance within the esplanade.
