Peebles Beltane Festival

Peebles Beltane Festival has a mixture of history and tradition and its origins go back as far as the 15th century although it did not become a regular event until the early 20th century. The festival is a old traditional Gaelic ceremony which marks the beginning of summer and this type of festival has been celebrated around Europe for thousands of years.

When the festival takes place the town of Peebles is a hive of activity as many local residents dress up and forget their problems for the week and enjoy the carnival atmosphere. The high street is often packed with spectators try to see the Beltane Queen.
