Aberdeen and Grampian

A magical area of castles and whisky distilleries in the north east of Scotland, the Grampian region is a popular destination with tourists. This area is the whisky capitol of the world with the popular whisky trail taking you around some of the best distilleries and allowing you to sample some of the finest malts anywhere in the world. There is also a large collection of castles including the 800 year old Fyvie Castle and the supposedly haunted Dunnottar Castle among the caste which you will encounter on the castle trail.

The only city in the Grampian region is Aberdeen which is better known as the Granite City due to its large deposits of granite. It also offers some excellent shopping and is a great base for touring the region. Some other towns of note include Peterhead, a fishing village and Stonehaven where there is an excellent annual beer festival.
