Aberdeen and Grampian
Banff and MacDuff are in Aberdeenshire and they are separated by the River Deveron with Banff being on the west bank and MacDuff on the east. Banff was known as Banffshire until 1975, its name means Banbh or Banbha and which translates as Ireland in Scots Gaelic.

The two towns are joined by a bridge which was built in 1799 by John Smeaton after a previous bridge build in 1765 had been swept away with 3 years of its creation.

One of the most notable attractions in the area is Duff House a four floor Georgian Baroque house, regarded as one of the best Georgian Houses in Britain. The house is in keeping with the surrounding as Banff is know for having a vast array of historic buildings which include Banff Castle and the Maritime museum.

MacDuffs main attraction is the Marine Aquarium which is inkeeping with the towns harbour side location. The harbour dates from 1760 when the town was named Doune, it was later renamed after the family which claimed ownership over the land, James Duff the 2nd Earl of Fife in 1783.
