Stirling and Perthshire
Blair Athol is a small town in central Scotland in the Perthshire, it can be accessed by driving along the A9 or by railway on the Inverness line. Whatever your method of travel the most identifiable feature of Blair Athol is the majestic white building of Blair Castle.

Blair Castle dates from 1269 when a tower was built by John Comyn, the neighbour of the Earl of Athol. The Earl complained about the building of this tower on his land to the King and won ownership of the tower which was then incorporated into the castle.

The castle is home to the only legal private army in Europe, having been granted this after guarding Queen Victoria on separate visits to Blair Castle. She was so impressed with them that she awarded the regiment there own colours and official status as a private army.

In the town of Blair Athol you will find a somewhat tranquil atmosphere, it is a small town with many old stone building which offer the potential visitor a glimpse of old Scotland. One of the most notable buildings is the Old Mill which dates from the earl 19th centaury and is now open to visitors in the summer.
