Air
There is no airport in Kirkcaldy so you would like arrive into either glasgow or edinburgh airport which are 1hr30min and 40 minutes away.  From Glasgow you can catch a train to Kirkcaldy via Edinburgh and you can get a direct train from Haymarket Edinburgh.

Train
About a 15 minute walk from the city centre, the train station has a direct route to both Edinburgh and Inverness, you can also get connecting services to other towns and cities from here.  Check www.trainline.co.uk for times and routes.

Bus
The main bus station in Kirkcaldy is above the high street and you can get a bus to or from here to all the main cities.  The X60 is a direct service to/from Edinburgh, there is also the X27 to/from Glasgow. For more details try www.travelinescotland.com.

 

Kirkcaldy is best explored on foot as most of the main things to see are in the city centre.  You can also catch a bus to the retail park and surrounding attractions.

 

Ravenscraig Castle

Built in 1460 as a defence against the English and pirates who harried the Firth of Forth you can explore the castle ruins which overlook Ravenscraig park.

Adam Smith
Created as a memorial to Kirkcaldy’s most famous resident of the same name (known as being the father of economics) this theatre is the place to see plays and movies.  For full show listing check out the website. http://www.adamsmiththeatre.com

Ice Rink
Home of the Fife Flyers, you have the option of catching a Ice Hockey match or during the day you can do some ice skating.  Either way, a good way a good day out.

Open : 10am - 12pm & 2pm - 4pm (mon-thu)

Kirkcaldy Art Museum
Located right next to the train station, the museum offers a good collection of 19th and 20th centuary scottish painting and a good local history exhinition.

 

Invertiel Bed & Breakfast
Comfortable city centre B&B which has good quality accommodation at a good price, only £28 per person which includes breakfast.

Dunnikier House Hotel
An 18th centaury hotel full of character situated adjacent to Dunnikier Golf Club, rooms here start at £67.50 for a single and £95 for a double.

 

Eating

Tobys Chip Bar, located just outside of Kirkcaldy in the small town of Thornton, here you can get some of the best fish and chips around. Good portions, well priced and you have the option of takeaway or sitting in.

Matteo's Italian Restaurant, Serves fresh Italian food food with the option of a la carte dining.

Harlem Steakhouse, The best place for steak lovers with a wide varitey of sizes available, a bit pricey for kirkcaldy but worth it if you like your steak.

 

Eating

The main shopping centre in Kirkcaldy is the Mercat, which can be accessed of the high street through Boots or Marks and Spencer.  Most of the main shops in Kirkcaldy are here.

The are also a few shops on the high street and outside the city centre there is the Fife Central Retail park which has a Boots, Comet and Homebase.

Pubs

The Robert Nairn , Weatherspoons chained pub, known for some good drinks specials and also has cheap food deals.  Located just off the high street.

Smithies Tavern, only a 15 minute walk from the town centre a popular bar.

Café Continental, A classier bar and the prices reflect this, but has an outdoor seating area making it a good choice on a summer afternoon.

Clubs

The Candle Rooms
Another club that is always changing its name, its is smaller than Bentley but it is usually pretty busy.  The cheapest night is on Thursday where you pay £12 to get in and then it’s a free bar!  A resident D.J plays all the latest dance tracks on a Friday and Saturday night, its usually cheaper admission before 12.

Bentleys
One of the main clubs in Kirkcaldy, it is often changing its name but inside it remains a busy and popular meeting place.  It has a student night on a Thursday and that is the cheapest night for drinking.  Also open on a Friday and Saturday, where it is more expensive but the place to be come midnight in Kirkcaldy.
