Eating

St Andrews is known for its more affluent clientele and the range of fine dining available reflects this.  It is still possible to pick up some cheap non complicated food as well though.  The Grill House comes into this category with a good menu that offers good priced favourites.

If you want to take advantage of St Andrews seaside location then try out the excellent, appropriately named Seafood Restaurant with magnificent views over the Old Course and North Sea.  For more traditional fine dining then try the busy Vine Leaf Restaurant, hidden off South Street next to All Days.  Pre booking here is highly recommended.

Eating

St Andrews is not known for its shopping, although if you are into golf then you will not find a better selction of specalist golf stores anywhere in scotland1 There are a few other shops scattered throughout the high street but if you want a better selection of shops you would be better advised to get on one of the frequent buses to Dundee.

Eating

Pubs
Two thirds of St Andrews population is students which means between August and June the nightlife can be lively even although there is a limited selection of pubs.  The main places to drink are The Gin House and The Vic.  Both are constantly busy and always have good drink promotions on.  If you are looking for something a bit quieter and more up market then try the Old Course Hotel which is eloquent but you’ll pay £8 for a cocktail.

Clubs
There aren’t any clubs located in St Andrews which means if you are looking for a venue beyond 1am you will have to go to Dundee (which on a Wednesday is possible via the Fat Sams bus).
